Beck Venture Center
Winner in Exterior Architecture Photography, Educational Exterior.
The Beck Venture Center at Colorado School of Mines bridges academia and business in a three-story, 32,000-square-foot facility designed by OZ Architecture. Two levels of offices and workspaces rise above a public ground floor that fosters collaboration. Pursuing LEED Gold certification, the all-electric building integrates geo-exchange systems, photovoltaic infrastructure, and net-zero readiness. These features reflect its mission to support student entrepreneurship through a modern, sustainable design.
Geisel Library
Winner in Exterior Architecture Photography, Historic Exterior.
The first time I saw images of Geisel Library, I thought it was a conceptual rendering of a 1950s space-age design. Turns out it is real—a fitting design for its namesake, Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss). Built in the late 1960s by William Pereira, it's a bold, visionary work of modernist architecture that became iconic almost immediately. Geisel captures both Brutalism and mid-century futurism and remains deeply tied to the identity of UC San Diego. More than a building, it is a cultural landmark recognized worldwide for its striking presence, enduring significance, and imaginative spirit.
Nidaros Cathedral
Winner in Interior Architecture Photography, Historic Interior.
Nidaros Cathedral Ceiling — Trondheim, Norway. This image is composed of 9 different photos stitched together, resulting in a final image that is over 19,000 x 19,000 pixels in size, capturing the breathtaking beauty of the ceiling in remarkable detail.
Wyoming Welcome Center
Winner in Exterior Architecture Photography, Public Exterior.
The Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center, just south of Cheyenne, is a striking glass and steel structure designed by Anderson Mason Dale Architects. Completed in 2012, it serves as a landmark of modern and sustainable design. Rammed earth walls, building-integrated photovoltaics, wind turbines, and a geothermal system reduce energy use, while daylight harvesting and wetlands enhance efficiency and ecological performance. Its form and features reflect Wyoming's landscape and commitment to sustainability.
Barcode from Akrobaten Pedestrian Bridge
Honorable Mention in Cityscapes.
Panoramic image of Oslo Cityscape, Barcode from Akrobaten Pedestrian Bridge — Oslo, Norway.
SITE Santa Fe
Honorable Mention in Cultural Exterior.
SITE Santa Fe is a contemporary art space in the Railyard Arts District. The 2017 renovation by SHoP Architects transformed the museum with a new lobby, flexible galleries, and a striking perforated-aluminum facade. In photographing the building, I chose to leave the telephone poles and wires in the composition. While often removed in architectural photography, here they reflect the industrial character of the district and emphasize the dialogue between the art space and its urban setting.
SITE Santa Fe Entrance
Honorable Mention in Exterior Details.
This close-up of the SITE Santa Fe entrance highlights the dramatic triangular form created by SHoP Architects' 2017 renovation. The perforated-aluminum panels converge to a sharp peak, framing the glazed lobby below and creating a bold geometric statement against the night sky. Shot at dusk, the warm interior light plays against the cool blue hour, drawing the eye directly into the heart of the building.
UCCS Anschutz Engineering Center
Honorable Mention in Education Exterior.
The Anschutz Engineering Center at UCCS, designed by OZ Architecture, features advanced labs, classrooms, and a striking glass stairway with a ceiling-mounted satellite. With just one day to photograph two buildings, limited access, and ongoing classes, we adapted by capturing authentic campus life rather than staging scenes. Prioritizing key areas, we worked around class schedules to highlight integration, sustainability, and innovation. The resulting images now support OZ's award submissions and future pursuits.
Windcliff
Honorable Mention in Residential Exterior.
This minimalist mountain modern home by Bas1s Architecture + Design sits on a hillside in Estes Park, Colorado, overlooking the Beaver Meadows entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Natural pine, steel, dry stack stone, and glass define its design, while the angular metal roof creates striking interior ceiling lines. Expansive windows frame mountain views, and a floating steel beam staircase with pine treads connects levels. The deck and entry overhang are each supported by a single, sculptural post, keeping the design sleek and unobstructed.
Final Thoughts
Receiving four wins and five honorable mentions from the Architecture Photography MasterPrize is a meaningful recognition — not just of the images themselves, but of the architects, builders, and institutions behind each project. Every building here represents someone's vision, and it's a privilege to help tell those stories through photography.
Architecture photography continues to challenge and inspire me. Whether it's planning a composite shot of a cathedral ceiling in Norway, working around class schedules at a university, or making a deliberate choice to leave the telephone poles in frame, every project brings its own set of decisions. I'm grateful to the Architecture MasterPrize for this recognition, and looking forward to what comes next.
