ALD Community Co-Working Hub

The Arapahoe County Library District had a vision: transform their administrative building into a community-centered co-working hub. After the pandemic reshaped how people work, the district partnered with OZ Architecture to rethink how their space could better serve the community. Through a series of community conversations and collaborative programming sessions, OZ developed a design that converts more than half of the building into flexible, modern work environments. The result includes touch-down co-working spaces, formal and informal collaboration areas, a podcast studio, a video production studio, and a 100-person multi-purpose event space.

Challenges

Photography had to be completed in the narrow window between construction wrap and the grand opening, which was scheduled for the following week. Some finishing touches were still underway, and a few details in the completed work differed slightly from OZ's original design intent. The day also brought overcast skies, which would have made the interior spaces feel flat and uninviting. And in a moment nobody planned for, the library's book-sorting robot had its own agenda.

Solutions

For areas where the finished construction didn't quite match the design, we handled corrections in post, carefully retouching details to reflect OZ's intent while keeping everything looking natural. To counter the gray skies, we relied on our photographic lighting throughout, keeping the spaces bright and welcoming without pulling in any views of the dreary exterior. A big part of what made the day run smoothly was the preparation from both the OZ and Arapahoe Library District teams, who arrived organized, ready, and with people on hand to populate the spaces. Their coordination made it possible to work efficiently through a full building in a compressed timeframe. As for the robot, after a few attempts to coax it out of frame, we gave up and let it make a cameo.

Outcome

The images are now live on OZ Architecture's project page and have been featured across their social media channels, showcasing the finished hub to clients and collaborators. The robot, for its part, earned a permanent spot in the final gallery.
